Overview and Functions

The Greenfield Water Utility is responsible for the cleaning, testing, pumping, and distribution of potable water for domestic, commercial, industrial, and fire protection use in the City of Greenfield.

The Water Utility also maintains and repairs the water distribution system, water plants, wells, and elevated storage towers.  It is also responsible for maintaining and reading water meters for billing purposes.

The City of Greenfield Water Utility draws water from an underground aquifer.  The City has six wells, with an average depth of 130 feet, that pump water from this aquifer. Water is pumped from these wells to the Water Filtration Plant, which is located one block west of Riley Park on Main Street. After going through the filtration and disinfection process at the plant, the water is then sent into the water distribution system.
