In the fall of 2012, the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home and the Riley Old Home Society sponsored a contest to see who would pose in a picture reading a book of Riley's poetry.
This was inspired by an old photo of the iconic actor, James Dean, reading a book of Riley poetry. James Whitcomb Riley was Dean's favorite poet.
The public was asked to participate by taking pictures of well-known, noted, and famous individuals. Several local entries were entered as well as both gubernatorial candidates for Indiana governor, a US Senator, the Lt. Governor, a couple college mascots, TV personalities, the Colts Mascots, and even a Weeki Wachee mermaid! Over 60 entries were received from across the country. After the photos were submitted the public got the chance to voice their opinion on who were the "top ten" reading Riley today. The winner was a local Greenfield auctioneer, Wayne Addison, who received over 1,000 votes.
The top ten photos of individuals who received the most votes can be seen to the left, just click on each of the top ten photos to enjoy a full sized view.
There is a rotating gallery of all recieved entries below. Do you see anyone you know?
