About Greenfield

Greenfield, established in 1828, is the county seat of Hancock County. It is home to 18,401 resident Hoosiers. While Greenfield still has that small town charm, it is a bustling city on the move. There are many industrial and commercial businesses, professional services, restaurants, and a variety of locally owned small retail and specialty businesses throughout the city with more developing all the time.

Greenfield is proud of its heritage. The residents have worked tirelessly to restore many historic homes and businesses in the city. You will find excellent schools, an innovative and technologically advanced library, many parks and recreation areas, expanded health services, and annual events such as the Pennsy Trail Art Fair, Riley Festival, Entertainment on the Plaza, 4-H Fair, and many others. There is something for everyone in this historic city along the "Old National Road". Even the Greenfield native and Hoosier Poet, James Whitcomb Riley, proclaimed his hometown to be "the best home outside of heaven".
