The Greenfield Fire Department has grown tremendously since 1896. From the days of the old fire wagon pulled by "Old Tom" to the modern equipment used today our purpose is the same, to provide protection to the residents of Greenfield and Cernter Township. The desire to serve the public has not weathered in over 100 years and will be ever unchanged.
Today the Greenfield Fire Department operates out of two stations or "firehouses". Station 21 is located at 17 West South Street and contains the departments headquarters. Some equipment located at Station 21 includes an engine, a 102 ft. aerial platform, a heavy rescue, an ambulance with advanced life support (ALS) equipment, and a tanker. A Captain/Battalion Commander is currently stationed there who is in charge of both stations and all of the personnel on his shift. Station 22 is located at 210 West New Road and is the training location where we have a class room and space to teach firefighting skills. Housed at Station 22 is an engine, ALS ambulance, a tanker and a grass truck. Each shift has a lieutenant who is in charge at that station.
The Greenfield Fire Department is staffed by 45 full-time firefighters and 21 part-time or volunteer firefighters. All members are trained to the National Fire Protection Association Firefighter II level and all members must be State of Indiana Certified Emergency Medical Technicians. Currently ten of our firefighters are certified paramedics providing advanced medical care.
We currently have three shifts rotating coverage for the City of Greenfield and Center Township. These shifts start work at 7:00AM and end at 7:00AM the next morning. The administration, consisting of the Chief and four Deputy Chiefs, works a standard 40-hour week Monday through Friday.
